ALL the proceeds from EVERY book sold go to help non-profit animal charities caring for and rehabilitating domestic animals, livestock, wildlife and their habitats affected by the Black Saturday bushfires. Funds from the book have already gone to Animal Aid to help with hands-on bushfire recovery.
We have now identified four animal projects in the Black Saturday bushfire area – two in animal recovery and two in animal bushfire prevention – and we’ll be announcing these projects soon.
More than one year after the bushfires, recovery goes on and on and on. There is no short-term solution. Recovery does take time, resources, and cohesive, researched strategies.
Part of our charter is about showing you where funds from the sale of Moments of Connection go. Once we announce and begin our four projects, we’ll produce progress reports so you can read, listen to and watch the developments.
Thanks to our retail partners AWPL Retail Solutions who are stocking Moments of Connection at their stores for NO profit. That’s right, all proceeds from the sale of our book go straight to our bushfire appeal. So support us by supporting them.
AWPL are at airports across Australia – so if you or your friends are flying or picking up friends at the airport, purchasing is easy. And if you’re heading overseas to meet friends, this book with our front cover of Jo kissing a joey in Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory is the perfect, iconic Australian gift!

On February 7, 2009, Australia suffered its highest ever loss of life from bushfires across the state of Victoria resulting in 173 deaths and injuries to more than 500 people.
With temperatures in the high 40s (degrees Celsius) and winds in excess of 100 kilometres per hour, the bushfires’ ferocity, speed and power defied belief. In a chaotic and terrifying day the fires destroyed more than 2,200 houses and a total of 3,500 buildings. Whole towns were annihilated, a total of 78 individual townships were affected and 7,500 people were left homeless.
On the animal front, it’s estimated thousands of domestic animals as well as millions of unique and endangered native animals perished as the fires engulfed hundred of thousands of hectares of land.
Sam the koala – the koala drinking from a water bottle of firefighter David Tree, watch the video became the worldwide representative of the plight of these animals, only to lose her life after an operation in August to remove cysts caused by the disease Chlamydia
Animals like Sam continue to fight every day for life, not only in their recovery, but in their search for food and new habitat.
